Meet Denita Britton: A Journey into HR
Denita Britton's path to founding Let's Talk HR Services is a testament to her unwavering commitment to helping individuals find their place in the workforce. Her journey began when she was 14 with a part-time job at Kmart, where she served up hot dogs, soft drinks, and more. This experience provided her with a taste of financial independence and ignited her drive to explore her career options.
Soon, Denita transitioned to roles at Dave's grocery store and Wendy's, where the fast-paced, customer-driven environment revealed that this industry wasn't her long-term calling. Her desire to assist others led her to Rite Aid Pharmacy, where she found satisfaction in cashiering and stocking merchandise.
Her career journey continued with positions at Ashley Stewart and Dots, clothing stores where she served customers but without the physically demanding aspects of her previous roles. Recognizing her passion for helping others, Denita enrolled at Bryant & Stratton College, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Management.
During her time at Bryant & Stratton, Denita's role as a work-study student in the Financial Aid Department allowed her to guide nervous and excited students through the complexities of financial aid paperwork, providing invaluable support. Later, as she transitioned to the Career Services Department, she assisted alumni and soon-to-be graduates with job readiness, cap and gown preparations, professional portfolios, and job postings. Witnessing these individuals embark on their post-graduation journeys was truly rewarding and motivating.
Upon graduating in August 2013, Denita's passion and dedication caught the attention of the Dean of Instruction at Bryant & Stratton. He saw her potential and offered her the role of Adjunct Faculty member, where she helped students prepare for real-life interviews, navigate the job market, and build their careers.
Unexpectedly, Denita was presented with an opportunity to become a PT Career Coach at Bryant & Stratton and to manage the HR division of a small company called SLMG Brand Management. Despite having no prior HR experience, her willingness to take on new challenges led her to accept both roles. As a Career Coach, Denita excelled at helping students find their true calling, using her innate ability to read people and guide them toward their ideal roles in the corporate world.
At SLMG Brand Management, Denita faced the daunting task of building an HR division from scratch, including establishing standard operations, company policies, and recruitment processes. She immersed herself in the world of recruiting, developing a comprehensive process to streamline operations. Over a decade, she honed her skills and acquired invaluable experience working with a small business, mastering the art of building something from nothing.
In 2019, Denita founded Let's Talk HR Services, a culmination of her experiences at SLMG and Bryant & Stratton. While the HR industry may not have been her initial choice, it became her true calling. Her journey is a testament to the idea that sometimes, the path chooses you. Today, Denita leads Let's Talk HR Services, driven by her passion to empower the next generation, second-chancers, and professionals seeking a fresh start in their careers. She believes that doing what you love with passion attracts those who believe in your work and have faith in your abilities.
